Term 4!

Today was the first day of our last term. only 8 weeks to go now!!... First we made a hand tied formal linear bouquet. They are meant to go into a vase. I was quite happy with how this turned out:

This is 'take one' of the formal linear asymmetrical bowl. I made it a little flat backed so when I got it home I moved some of my placements:

This is take 2:

I think i'm going to like this term.

Blog Flower Wedding Advice - Nancy Liu Chin - Top Floral Event Designer: Real Brides: DIY Part One

I found this blog which is really helpful. There are so many articles on business and floral design. Just wanted to share this article in particular about a bride who wanted to do her own flowers. I found it relevant to me as I have had some people wanting to do their own wedding flowers and have asked me for tips. This brides DIY story I find is typical of a busy bride who wanted to do their own flowers.

Purple Paradise

Today in class we had to make a beach theme using the flowers and vases provided:

We also made a pomander ball. With the left over's, I made below Chrysanthemum's in a vase, and some orchids in a fish bowl vase (And, thanks to Maya for testing out the longevity of the pomander ball!):

Note to self: Do not put too many tea lights in a fishbowl vase especially if close to the top. Yeah you guessed it - Crack!!

Peachy

How beautiful are these roses:

We were discussing in class what colour these are and we decided they were a peach colour. they are huge and do look a bit like peaches. These would go really well at a wedding or on a reception desk.

Red & White

I got a new lens for my camera this week and i love it. it really picks up a shallow depth of field. check it out:

I love the peppercorn but it can get a little sticky to work with.

And i'll leave you with little pic of my dog taken with the new lens... isn't she cute?

Loving the Peppercorn

In this arrangement is peppercorn, succulents and mini gum. I love these baby succulents... they are so cute. The mini gum was an after thought but a good one I think.
I made this one in a square vase with my left overs.

Blushing Bride

I made this arrangement for a fundraising event for my hairdresser Ruth at Travis George Hair Lounge in Broadway. They are helping me with a bit of PR at the same time which is very lovely of them so hopefully this attracts some attention for them. This arrangement should last them a while so they will get to enjoy it in the salon too.
Now...Blushing Bride is one of my faves and I am glad it is not around all year (you appreciate it even more when it does come around!). It is available in July/August/September here in Australia (winter/early spring). They are so beautiful and interesting.

Wintery Flowers

Some pretty kale and yellow tulips. Don't they give you that fresh wintery feeling?

A Bit of Photography

6 weeks ago I went to my cousin's baby shower and decided to take a bunch of black and white pictures with my SLR. Took pictures of the baby's toys and little shoes and made a collage of the different images. I can now put them up to show you since she has now had the baby and I'll be visiting tomorrow. The picture below is probably a little hard to see but you get the general idea. Each collage of photo's was placed in a frame. Hopefully she likes my little sentimental gift.

Side note: I am deeply upset that Ikea no longer sell these frames... what am i going to do now? Soooo should have bought a heap of them when i had the chance. Although 10 packs of 2 I thought was ample at the time.

Welcome to the world little man!

Business Cards!

Just received my business cards... I can't believe I've gone this long without getting some decent ones. Here they are showing the front and back.

Flower Club

$74 Flower Club Arrangement. The Oriental Lilies smell beautiful.

Glebe Markets

Had Breakfast with a friend this morning and we have been banging on about setting up a stall at Glebe Markets for ages so we've decided to start in the Spring (around October). For those of you who don't know Glebe, its less than 5km from the city of Sydney and is a funky yet pricy area. The Markets are great. They sometimes have a singer and there is always great clothes and good food to buy.

Back to the stall idea: I'll sell flowers and promote weddings and Em will sell her vintage wares. Since it is the start of the wedding season, it think we'll be selling wedding-y stuff (bird cages, deco's etc...) and promte Em's spray tan business too. Here is part of the inspiration from breakfast this morning:

Don't these Tulips look yummy. It almost looks like a bouquet of strawberries. I was so drawn to them this morning whilst at the flower markets, I had to get them.

Corporate Arrangement

My Client loved the flowers even before I took them out of the crate!

This arrangement is $74 (vase hire only)
